Changing the language of Open edX happens on an individual user basis. This means that each learner or staff member can see the same Open edX site in their preferred language.
This does not mean, however, that the content of the course will be translated – only things like menus, titles, etc that are part of the Open edX platform. In order for the content itself to be in a different language, it must be authored in a different language.
Step 1. Get your preferred language packs installed by an Appsembler professional!
Since Open edX does not “ship” with a variety of languages, you will need to have an Appsembler team member install the appropriate Language Packs on your site. Please reach out to us if you require additional language packs (other than US English).
The Open edX translation/localization process is a process being undertaken by the open source community via Transifex. Click Here to see the current state of various Open edX translations and contribute yourself if you wish!
Step 2. Navigate to your account settings
- From the LMS part of your Open edX site, click on the “hamburger menu” in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
- Then, select “Account” (You can also reach this page by adding /account/settings to the end of your LMS URL.
Step 3. Scroll down to the “Language” drop down menu and choose the language of your preference!
That’s it! Your changes are saved automatically.
