Building a custom course catalog with Tahoe Tracks

Here’s how to build your own custom course catalog with the Tracks page in Tahoe.

From your management console, navigate to the
Page Editor.

Scroll to the bottom of the list of available static pages, and you will find the Tracks page. Click on the Edit page button.

Here, you’ll find a blank static page. Just like all of the other static pages that are available to you (e.g. /blog, /news, /donate), you can build this page out to be whatever you want it to be!

At this point, creating your custom course catalog page is simply a matter of building it. This can either be accomplished using the standard UI tools available in the Tahoe page editor, or entirely in HTML with the
HTML content block element.

Here are a couple of articles on building and structuring content in the Page Editor:

Your Tracks page can be as simple as a text list of course titles that link to the courses. They can also be as complex as your HTML and CSS skills will carry you!

However you go about building your Tracks page, once it’s ready to go, don’t forget to
enable it from the Page editor. You’ll also likely want to make sure your learners know how to find your Tracks page either by putting a link to it in your header or footer, or by adding some sort of call-to-action on your main landing page.

Changing the Explore Courses target

When a learner first enrolls on your site, or unenrolls from all their courses, they’ll see something that looks a little like this:

If you’d like your learners to end up on /tracks instead of /courses, you’ll need to head over to the
General Settings area in the management console, and scroll down to Course Catalog Settings. There you’ll find a simple field to update that’ll take your learners wherever you want them to go when they click that big Explore Courses button. In my case, I’ve disabled the catalog because I want them to use /tracks instead:

If you do not change this, even if your catalog is disabled, learners will still be sent there. So change it!
